Explore Florence's Oltrarno neighborhood, on the less-visited (but equally charming) side of the River Arno. Your 3-hour walking tour focuses on the intriguing Florentine art and craft traditions that are centuries old, but still alive in Oltrarno today. Meet local artists and craftsmen, visit bustling workshops, see beautiful Renaissance architecture and even try your hand at the ancient skill of paper marbling! Meet your guide by the impressive Piazza Pitti, and stroll through the quaint streets and squares of the bohemian Oltrarno neighborhood. The lively, working-class district hums with activity of craftsmen and traders going about their day-to-day lives. The first stop on your tour is an old atelier, a traditional workshop where the owner will show off the quality art prints and engravings that are created there.
Head to a studio close by and watch a silversmith in action, creating jewelry from silver and enamel. Hear colorful tales and learn about his working life in Florence as a master craftsman. Your tour continues to a paper marbling shop where you’ll learn all about this fascinating craft. The ancient skill of paper marbling is rarely practiced anywhere else in Italy, so this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn how to mix and apply colors to create gorgeous, marble-like swirls on paper.
After spending roughly two hours meeting Oltrarno's most interesting craftspeople and seeing their places of work, your guide will introduce you to the neighborhood's other charms. Walk through Piazza Santo Spirito, lined with restaurants, craft shops and galleries, before stepping inside its main attraction -- the beautiful Basilica de Santa Maria del Santo Spirito. Originally designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, one of the most important architects of the Renaissance era, the church is home to a wooden crucifix that was carved by a young Michelangelo when he was just 17 years old.
Your walking tour ends at the workshop of a great Florentine artist, descended from six generations of sculptors. Located in an 18th-century church, the workshop is home to a vast collection of molds, models, copies of famous monuments and replicas of classical works of art, all of which you can admire! (hide)

Discover the sights and stories of medieval Florence – a time of scandal and intrigue – and see the city’s showstopping attractions alongside lesser-known ‘palazzos’ on a 2-hour evening walking tour. Hear of the Medici family dynasty who ruled the city for centuries and learn of the fierce political rivalries and love stories that set medieval tongues wagging. Your tour includes sites like Palazzo di Bianca Cappello, as well as the Ponte Vecchio and Piazza Signoria, before finishing up at one of the city’s best gelaterias!Meet your guide in the center of town and set off on a walking tour, learning about the city in medieval times – the era that shaped Florence and laid the foundations for its golden age Renaissance. An affluent time for the city, the Medieval ages, saw Florence as one of Europe’s leading commercial centers; but with its wealth came power struggles and cut-throat business dealings, which in turn led to it becoming one of the city’s (arguably) most interesting times.
As you walk around the cobbled streets and piazzas with your guide, hear of the scandals that stigmatized the city during the Middle Ages, and of the Medici family around whom the scandals invariably centered. See Palazzo di Bianca Cappello, built by the Grand Duke Cosimo Medici for his mistress, and hear about the couple’s mysterious deaths – brought to light only recently through the use of modern technology.
Pass Palazzo Strozzi, a majestic building created from rusticated stone, and learn how it was built for one of the main rivals of the Medicis – the Strozzi family. Continue strolling along Florentine streets etched with history and see Palazzo di Parte Guelfa, a lavish palace that another political rival – the Guelph family – made their headquarters.
Alongside the sights of medieval Florence, your tour also takes in some of Florence’s A-list attractions. Walk from Piazza Signoria (the hub of medieval Florence), passing the Uffizi Gallery and then marvel at the nighttime reflections of the River Arno from the Ponte Vecchio – Florence’s iconic bridge. As you admire the sights, your guide will regale you with some of the lesser-known stories about them, leaving you snippets of intrigue about this oh-so-charismatic city.
Stop at one of the city’s leading gelaterias, and after choosing from a wide selection of flavors, finish your night just as the Florentines do – strolling through the romantic streets with a refreshing gelato. Your tour ends at Ponte Santa Trinità in the center of town.

Skip the entrance lines and climb to the top of Brunelleschi's Dome with an expert guide! Majestically dominating the city skyline, the terracotta dome of Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (or Florence Duomo, as it’s more commonly known) is easily Florence's most iconic attraction. After experiencing this masterpiece of architectural genius, head inside the Cathedral Workshop to learn more about Filippo Brunelleschi, the dome's Renaissance architect.Walk with your guide to Piazza del Duomo and after weaving your way through the throngs of street musicians, artists and tourists who congregate in this eclectic square, head straight inside Florence Duomo with your skip-the-line entrance ticket.
In peak times, the entrance lines can exceed two hours, so by pre-booking your priority entrance tickets, you'll ensure that you’re spending your time inside this incredible building rather than standing in line!
After explaining the history of the Renaissance dome (known as the cupola) your guide will lead the way straight up its impressive 463-step staircase. Taking roughly 45 minutes, the walk up the steps is not for the faint-hearted! Be prepared for a steep and narrow climb – hard work but most definitely worth it. As you ascend through the ‘onion layers’, or two shells, of the dome, pass fascinating frescoes from esteemed Renaissance artists like Vasari and Zuccari.
Once at the top, enjoy simply incomparable views over Florence and the Tuscan hills. Walk around the dome’s balcony to take photos and soak up the sights, while your guide regales you with tales of Filippo Brunellechi, the talented Renaissance architect who created the dome itself.
After spending roughly 30 minutes at the top, start the careful descent back down the stairs. Relax at the bottom, before heading inside the Cathedral Workshop (Museum of Opera del Duomo) to explore with your guide. Hear about the engineering conundrum faced by Brunelleschi -- to create a dome for the 150-foot (45-meter) space without scaffolding or pillars -- and see tools used in the dome’s construction, alongside Gothic and Renaissance sculptures. Your guided tour ends inside the museum. (hide)

Discover Florence with a native Florentine who will teach you how to create beautiful photos in the city where the Renaissance was born. SS. Annunziata Square is considered one of the most beautiful squares of Florence with its Renaissance lines like the Ospedale degli Innocenti portico designed by Brunelleschi in the beginning of XV century. You'll visit:- San Lorenzo church - one of the best examples of Renaissance in Florence but close to the church there is also one of the most popular markets in the town.
- The Duomo (S. Maria del Fiore) began construction in 1296 by Arnolfo di Cambio on site of the old church of S. Reparata and took 150 years to complete; the enormous dome was designed by Brunelleschi, winner of a public competition, who developed a new building method creating one of the greatest engineering results of all time which is now one of the symbols of Florence in the world.
- Republica Square marks the site of the ancient forum, the core of the original Roman settlement and, now home of Florences' most fashionable and expensive cafes like Paszkowsky and still the center of the life in the town.
- Orsanmichele has a long history: originally a grain market, became a church at the end of XIV century after the arcades were closed and two additional stories added; the statues on the exterior represent the work of many Renaissance artists.
- Signoria Square has been the central point of political life through the centuries with Palazzo Vecchio, the fortress, city hall and the huge Fountain of Neptune by Ammannati; all the statues including Michelangelo's David and the ones in the Loggia dei Lanzi makes it an outdoor gallery.
- S. Trinita Bridge was built in its elegant curves by Ammannati in XVI century, probably using Michelangelo's drawings, but was rebuilt in 1952, using again the original stones, after being destroyed during second world war.
