(more) Enjoy a full day exploring magnificent castles in the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed region in central France. After pickup from your hotel in Paris, your guide will take you to the picturesque Loire Valley to discover three different châteaux. You can choose between two sets of châteaux: Amboise, Chenonceau and Chambord or Villandry, Langeais and Azay le Rideau. This small-group tour is limited to 18 people, ensuring you’ll receive a more personalized experience. After pickup from your central Paris hotel in an air-conditioned minivan, relax on the scenic drive to the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed wine region in central France. Below are the two sets of castles you can choose to visit on this small-group tour.

Option one: Amboise, Chenonceau and Chambord
First, discover Château d’Amboise, a favored royal residence during the Renaissance. Here, in the Chapel of St Hubert, the remains of Leonardo da Vinci are buried.

Then, marvel at Château de Chenonceau. Famed for its highly decorated interior and exterior, this is one of the most popular châteaux in France. After your tour, enjoy a three-course lunch with wine (included) at the nearby 18th-century Breton-style inn (for a sample menu, please refer to the Itinerary section below).

Then, visit UNESCO World Heritage-listed Château de Chambord, the largest castle in the Loire Valley and one of the most recognizable due to its astounding Renaissance architecture. Legend has it that Leonardo da Vinci contributed to the design of its famous double-helix staircase.

Option two: Villandry, Langeais and Azay le Rideau
If you choose this option, start your tour with a visit to Château de Villandry and walk around its spectacular gardens and beautiful terraces. This castle was the last great chateau built on the banks of the Loire River during the Renaissance.

Next, tour Château de Langeais, a wonderful example medieval architecture built in 1465 by Louis XI. For lunch, stop by the bakery opposite the castle (own expense) and enjoy a picnic in the lovely park of Langeais. Or, your guide can offer some recommendations for nearby restaurants and cafés.

Lastly, visit 16th-century Château d’Azay le Rideau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One of the most elegant Loire castles, this chateau is built on an island in the middle of the River Indre and is surrounded by a wooded park.

After your Loire Valley châteaux tour, enjoy a relaxing drive back to Paris.

(more) Learn all about Impressionism – the contemporary art movement that started in Paris – on this exciting full-day art tour to Giverny, Chatou and Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. Led by a guide, the tour showcases the lives of the Impressionist trend setters, like Claude Monet and Pierre-August Renoir, who blazed a trail in the 19th-century art world with revolutionary portrayals of light in their paintings. Visit the House of Claude Monet in Giverny, enjoy lunch at Chatou’s Île des Impressionnistes, and tour Musée de l'Orangerie before finishing your day with a Seine River cruise.Hop inside your luxury minivan in central Paris and travel northwest to the little Norman town of Giverny, just over an hour away. Having attracted many of the Impressionist greats of the 19th century, Giverny is awash with sites linked to artists like Renoir and Monet, and you’ll see the best of them on your tour.

Start with a visit to the House of Claude Monet to walk around Monet’s gardens, and learn all about the revered painter from your guide. Hear about his life in the town, and see the pond that prompted Monet to paint his iconic Decorations des Nymphéas (or Water Lilies, as it is perhaps better known). Walk in his footsteps, admiring the wisteria-draped Japanese Bridge that he built, and then head into his house itself to explore, seeing numerous artifacts and sources of inspiration.

Return to your minivan and travel the short journey to Île des Impressionnistes – an island in the Seine, just west of Paris. Also known as the Island of Chatou or Island of Impressionists, the rocky piece of land takes its name from the many 19th-century artists who favored it. Head inside the island’s popular restaurant-museum – La Maison Fournaise – and hear tales of its famous ex-patron, Renoir, while eating lunch. See the legendary Luncheon of the Boating Party by the artist, and then head back to your minivan.

Travel back to Paris, making your way to Tuileries Gardens to visit Musée de l'Orangerie – a museum with a vast collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artwork. See Monet’s Water Lilies, among other notable works, and learn about other incredible 19th-century artists like Cézanne, Renoir, Picasso, Rousseau, Matisse and Modigliani as you walk around with an audio guide.

After your 45-minute tour, it’s time for one final Impressionist treat! Stroll down to the riverbank with your guide and hop aboard a sightseeing cruise boat. Then, cruise along the Seine River, passing sights that inspired a thousand paintings, before disembarking and finishing your tour in the city center.

Normandy has many memorials of World War II like the Pegasus Bridge, captured by British gliders from Nazi control. The D-Day landing beaches of Juno, Gold and Omaha once saw fierce fighting between the Allied Forces and Nazis in the historic Battle of Normandy and memorials are erected in honour of those who lost their lives. The large number of graves in the American Military Cemetery stands testimony to the killings in the Second World War and has a pond and chapel for silent reflections. The ground is still pockmarked with bomb craters in certain regions and ruins of German fortifications and bunkers are not hard to find. A historic site in France, the D-Day landing beaches of Normandy testify to one of the fiercest battles in history. (hide)
